Mohammad Reza Shajarian Born in 1940 in Mashhad, he is a prominent Iranian musician, composer, singer and calligrapher. He has twice been nominated for a Grammy Awards. The Vancouver Sun newspaper has named him one of the most prominent figures in the art of music in the world. Prior to the 1979 revolution, his name was Siavash. After the 1979 revolution, Shajarian continued his artistic activities. Many Iranian singers and musicians are Shajarian students.
